Alcohol Awareness Seminar

URI Health Services recently held an alcohol awareness seminar within our chapter. We were reminded of the effects of alcohol and informed about new drugs that are becoming popular and to watch out for. These types of seminars are very important because we are better safe than sorry! URI has put a ban on bus trips to Providence because of the huge liability the University upholds. Many people have gotten hurt and accidents happen all the time. Our chapter president also put a ban on the bus trips because of the same reasons. We plan to have seminars with health services every semester and to spread more awareness around campus about drugs and alcohol and the harmful effects.

Leadership Award

At the sorority of the year awards banquet we won the outstanding leadership award. Thank you to our sisters who go out and make a difference around campus and in our chapter, you won this award for us. All members of the executive board are included in this. They are the ones who go out to represent our chapter and have shaped our good image. We are known to have some of the highest GPA's on campus and we like to keep our good reputation. Many of the girls are leadership major or minors and really contribute to make a difference in our house. Keep up the good work girls!

Philanthropy Week

Philanthropy week has been scheduled for November 15th-19th 2010! We can't wait until next semester to find out the pairings. Philanthropy week is very similar to greek week in the sense that it is a week long event of fundraising for our "philanthropy" which is cardiac care. Each sorority is paired with a fraternity to make teams. The team that earns the most money is the winner of the week. Some of the fundraisers include a blood drive, canned food drive, children's book drive, and many more. Philanthropy week is what really starts to get all of greek life excited for greek week! We hope to raise as much money as possible and make our chapter proud!

Fall Recruitment

As the year comes to an end we are down to our last Chapter meeting of the year. Believe it or not we are already starting to talk about fall rush! This will be my first time "rushing" and my pledge class and I couldn't be more excited! We are anxious to learn all the new songs, plan our rush outfits, and learn all the ins-and-outs to fall recruitment. Since Alpha Phi rushed first last fall, we have a lot to live up to. I went through the process myself but I never got to see behind the scenes. It is a very long process but in the end it is worth it. More updates to come!

Spring Formal

This years spring formal will be held on Saturday May 1st. We decided to try something different and this year we will be taking a cruise ship around Newport. Our house father is very worried about all the liabilities this could entail but all the sisters couldn't be more excited. This is a great way to finish up the semester and go out with a bang before a long hard week of finals. I hope all goes smoothly and there will be many memories made and great pictures taken too on the Newport Harbor!!

There will be a mandatory formal meeting this Wednesday the 28th! You MUST attend if you're planning on going. There is a lot of information to go over and you must sign a waiver in order to go. See you all there!

KING OF HEARTS TONIGHT!!

Greek Week Follow Up

Every year Greek Week is the most anticipated week of the year in Greek Life. It is something everyone looks forward too. As I mentioned before we were paired with Zeta Beta Tau this year and we were all so excited because they have a reputation for winning every year. We started out the week very strong and took first place in the chariot run, 50 yard dash, softball game, and the frisbee toss. Everyone was so pumped up to continue the rest of the week. We took part in toga socials, anything but clothes, neon nights, team colors, and even a jello wrestling social. One of our girls competed in the Mr. and Mrs. Greek week pageant and unfortunatley didn't win but we still had fun anyways. On Thursday was the greek sing contest where we took in 1st place!! We worked so hard on our routine and it payed off in the end. On Friday was the dance competition and we didn't place either but ZBT got first and boosted our excitement! We were sad that the week couldn't last forever but we are so excited for next year!

Red Dress Gala 3/ King of Hearts

The Red Dress Gala was a huge success. We raised a ton of money for the American Heart Association. Everyone looked great all dressed in red and the Quidnessett Country Club was beautiful! All the families really enjoyed the event and our advisors were very proud of us. Many of the girls went home with great prizes such as kickboxing packages or a round of golf for their dad! Our next fundraiser that is coming up is the King of Hearts. This is a male beauty pageant that many of the fraternity boys participate in. There is a formal, talent, swimsuit and a casual part to the competetion. All the boys get into it and our house father and chef judge the competetion. It should we a lot of fun and we are looking forward to it!
